Artemis set the benchmark

Monday 30 August 00:32:27
IMOCA 60 Artemis Ocean Racing crossed the Royal Yacht Squadron Line to set a new course record for an IMOCA 60* in the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race. Tired but elated Jonny Malbon commented; "We had a great trip round, this really is a world class racecourse, it is a shame that we were the only IMOCA 60. The Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland race would be an excellent build up to boats doing the Barcelona World Race. Anyway, we are delighted to have finished and we must now wait until the other boats behind us come in to see how we have faired on handicap. It has been a great race with good people on a fantastic boat."
*Artemis Ocean Racing needed to finish by 01:30:53 on Monday 30 August, to beat the IMOCA 60 record set by Aviva in 2006 of 6 days, 11 hours, 30 min and 53 secs.
Groupama take the gun
Sunday, 29 August 2010 10:43
Sunday 29 August 11:26:45
Volvo Open 70, Groupama, crossed the Royal Yacht Squadron Line to claim line honours in the 2010 Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race.
Groupama completed the 1802 mile course in 5 Days 21 Hours 26 minutes and 55 seconds, smashing the course record by 14 hours 3 minutes and 8 seconds.
There were emotional scenes on board as Franck Cammas and his crew crossed the finish line. It was a triumphant finale for Groupama in sharp contrast to the star, when they were the last boat to cross the line, after they had been damaged on their mooring.
"I definitely preferred the finish to the start," smiled Franck Cammas, surrounded by the media dockside after the finish. "It was difficult for us to give away five miles to Teléfonica, but very nice for all of the boats to see us charging through them in the Solent. This race has been so helpful to Groupama. The course is like a mini Volvo Ocean Race. It has all of the different conditions that we will encounter and it has been really good to race against Teléfonica. The crew has really got to know each other well and we have made some fantastic progress in our development over the last few days. Best wishes to everyone who will finish the race, it is a great achievement."

Newsflash 17:25 24/08/10
Fair Do's VII (GBR4601L) and Relentless on Incisor (GBR8248) have retired from the Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race. Both retirements are due to equipment failure and there are no reports of any injuries to crew on board either yacht.
Fair Do's VII has developed a steering problem, Relentless on Incisor sustained damage to the rig and boom.
Chris Radford from Relentless Offshore Racing explained: "Somewhere north of Great Yarmouth, the team suffered a crash gybe which has resulted in damage to the boom. This damage has to be repaired and will need external assistance, so the team is forced to retire. We are reassured that all the team are OK and heading into Great Yarmouth before bringing Incisor home."
Info from Tom (Navigator): "Hit by a squall, and boat gybed as it came back up. The boom hit the shrouds we think, and dented, so not safe to continue."
